Waste management companies are fundamentally transport companies, moving waste from one location to another—whether to a transfer station, recycling center, or another site, regardless of the transportation purpose, vehicle CO2 emissions are emitted in the process.

The Department of Climate Change has stated "Without intervention, the transport sector is projected to be Australia’s largest source of emissions by 2030."
